“I didn’t know that seeing a chiropractor was different.”
“Being from a construction family, we regularly used chiropractic. We knew of no better way to keep ourselves moving, playing, and working “to pay the bills”.
One of my favorite people as a young man was “Doc” McVay. He practiced in San Diego in the same location for over 50 years. He took great care of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and my family as well. He made a difference! After experiencing a football injury to my back, chiropractic brought me back to competition faster than was supposed to be possible. After high school, grades were decent enough and my family was motivational enough to make me realize that treating patients would be much more rewarding that just being one.
I began my pre-chiropractic education at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where I studied biological science with a concentration in anatomy/physiology. At the time and still now, Cal Poly is considered one of the better teaching institutions and I was fortunate enough to be a part of that.
After completing my studies at Cal Poly, I was accepted at Palmer Chiropractic College West here in California. During my four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Chiropractic Clinic.
After graduating in 1992, I did an extended externship in Redwood City where I was fortunate enough to take part in the care of over 100 patients daily. It was also a largely Hispanic clinic, so my clinic experience was unique and offered me an extra benefit—I now speak Spanish! I also chose to seek specialized training in both sports injury management and rehabilitation. In addition, I have been appointed by the state of California as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (Q.M.E.).
Making a Difference Matters
After more than 12 years of treating people here in Morgan Hill, I am happy to say that I am still excited and honored to serve my fellow man. It is a joy “to make a difference”, no wonder “Doc” McVay practiced for 50 years. My specialized training has also enabled me to feel more capable of serving our patients individual needs in a comprehensive, yet elegant, simple manner. Whether my patient needs custom exercise, soft tissue work, or nutritional support to aid or facilitate their chiropractic care; my clinic can provide it.
Over the years we have also been fortunate enough to get to know other health care specialists that can help our patients when they need something other than chiropractic care. I have found the true pleasure in serving others is finding what’s best for them, even if additional care takes them out of my office.
On a Personal Note
I have lived in Morgan Hill for over ten years with my wife, Kristy and our three children. Kennedy is now 10, Ricky is 8, and Lance will be 5. Our time together is kept busy with activities like soccer, swimming, fishing, and camping. We are also very involved with our church and a variety of different organizations in the area. Things are crazy sometimes but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
With my spare time, I enjoy cycling. I actually raced bicycles at one time and have begun training in order to return to competition.
Total Health Balance
As I tell my patients, seeking better health is complex and yet, simple. A balance between physical, emotional, and nutritional states is the first objective. Improving on these foundations, improves each of us. So as for me, I enjoy cycling, therefore I cycle. Nutritionally, I allow for vices just not too many and I fortify my nutrition through the use of appropriate supplements. I find my body does best to be adjusted once per month given what I put it through. Currently I am being adjusted several times monthly to increase the fitness of my low back to support my racing endeavors.
Enough about me! As Thomas Edison once said, “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
